Valentine Hearts with Amorous Cats

We made these handsome Valentine hearts using the designs from the Amorous Cats Set. You will need embroidery threads, tear-away stabilizer, polyester or wool felt, polyester fiberfill for stuffing, satin ribbons, and embellishments of your choice (optional).
Step One: Hoop felt with stabilizer and embroider one of the designs. Remove the stabilizer.
Step Two: Out of a piece of paper cut a heart shape. Cover the embroidery with the heart shape. Trace the shape with pencil. Cut it out leaving 1/4" seam allowance.
Step Three: If you want to embellish the heart with lace, do it now. Place the lace along the marked outline of the shape. Pin in place. Then baste in place and remove the pins.
Step Four: To make a loop for hanging, take a piece of ribbon of the needed length. Fold the ribbon in the middle to make the loop, pin the ends as shown on the photo. Neatly place the loop in the middle of the workpiece.
Step Five: Out of another piece of felt, cut the heart shape, using the same pattern. Leave 1/4" seam allowance. Place it over the working piece. Pin together. Start stitching along the marked line, removing the pins as you go. This stitch should attach the lace and the hanging loop. On the side, leave an opening of about 1 1/2" so you can turn the working piece out.
Step Six: Turn the working piece out. Through the opening in the side, stuff it with polyester stuffing, then manually slipstitch the opening.
The first heart is ready. It can be used as a pincushion, a door knob ornament or any hanging decoration in the room.
The easier way to make such a heart is to cut out two shapes, place them wrong side to wrong side. Place the hanging loop near the top.
Stitch both layers together 1/4" from the edge. Leave an opening of about 1" for stuffing.
Stuff the working piece trough the openning and close the opening on your machine. If you have scissors to make fancy edges, go ahead and cut the edges.
Several of the hearts can form a garland. Read more...
