Hang a bright Halloween scene on your wall with this embroidered quilt. A little house in the woods sits at the end of a path lined with jack-o'-lanterns and flowers, all stitched on black fabric. You embroider the center first, then add a lilac inner border and a neon print frame before you quilt the layers. The construction is very simple, but the embroidery makes the piece unique and beautiful.
We used the designs from the Fairy Tale House, Summer Garden Set, Stick Frame, and Jack-O-Lantern Set. The finished size of the quilt is about 25" x 31".

Embroidery:
Use paper print-outs or test stitch-outs of the designs to lay out the picture on the black fabric for the central part. Upload the selected files from the Fairy Tale House, Summer Garden Set, Stick Frame, and Jack-O-Lantern Set to your embroidery machine. Select the threads and stabilize the fabric. Hoop it tightly and embroider the designs in the center. We started with the house and the branches, and then embroidered the flowers. |
| The jack-o'-lanterns came last. |
| Trim the piece to 16 1/2" x 23 1/2". |
| Cutting: |
Out of the fabric for the first border (lilac in our case), cut:
- 2 strips measuring 1 1/2" x 23 1/2";
- 2 strips measuring 1 1/2" x 18 1/2".
Out of the fabric for the second border, cut:
- 2 strips measuring 4 1/2" x 25 1/2";
- 2 strips measuring 4 1/2" x 26 1/2".
Assembly:
| Note: the seam allowance is 1/4". Press each seam right after you sew it. |
| Sew the 2 lilac strips measuring 1 1/2" x 23 1/2" to the upper and lower edges of the central part. |
Then sew the remaining lilac strips to the left and right edges of the central part.
| Sew the 4 1/2" x 25 1/2" patterned strips to the upper and lower edges of the working piece. |
Sew the 4 1/2" x 26 1/2" strips to the left and right edges of the working piece.

Quilting and Finishing
Place the backing face down on a flat surface, such as a table. Cover it with the batting, and spread your working piece over the top.
Pin all the layers together. We free-motion quilted the whole piece with matching threads. Start in the central part, and echo-quilt around the house and the branches first. |
| Next, we quilted the footpath with variegated thread. |
| Then move on to the left and right sides, echo-quilting around the embroidery first. |
Quilt the borders last. Press with steam. Square up the piece so that all the corners are 90 degrees and opposite sides are the same length. Finish the raw edges with the binding. |
| Have fun! |
