Soft minky fabric works well for baby blankets because it feels gentle and holds up to washing. This project shows how to add puppy face applique embroidery to a minky blanket and finish the edges with a simple border. You will embroider the designs, cut and attach the pieces, and sew the binding. The steps are straightforward and use basic embroidery and sewing skills.
We used 4 designs from the Puppy Applique and embroidered them in the corners of the minky square.
The finished size of the blanket is about 40" x 40".

You will need:
- embroidery threads, either polyester or rayon;
- 40 inches of minky fabric;
- 40 inches of flannel fabric for the lining;
- scraps of different fabrics for the applique, please choose the colors you like;
- quilt/blanket binding (we used 2 packages by Wrights);
- light-weight cut-away embroidery stabilizer;
- quilter's ruler;
- rotary cutter and/or scissors;
- applique scissors;
- iron;
- #12-#14 universal needle.

| Cutting: |
Out of the minky and flannel fabrics, cut pieces of the same size:
- one square, or rectangle, of minky fabric;
- one square, or rectangle, of flannel fabric.
Our blanket is 40" x 40". Feel free to make the blanket any size you need. |
Embroidery:
|
We used 4 designs from the Puppy Applique.
Upload the selected files to the embroidery machine.
Select threads. Stabilize the minky fabric in the corners. Hoop tightly and embroider the designs one by one.
Cut away the excess stabilizer. |
Sewing:
|
Position the flannel fabric and the embroidered minky top wrong side to wrong side.
Align and pin all sides together.
Topstitch the layers together with a 1/2" seam allowance.

| Finish the raw edges with the quilt binding. |
