The pattern for this eye-catching winter quilt comes form the book
Merry
Christmas Quilts. We had the idea of incorporating machine embroidery
into the quilt.
We used the machine embroidery design
Cardinal
in the photo-stitch technique and Holly
Berry in the cross-stitch technique. |

The finished size of the quilt is 30" x 30".

| The original pattern offers to make an appliqued cardinal, but we used
the embroidery design Cardinal,
instead. We pieced the top first, then made the embroidery. |
|
| We also made the embroidery of the Holly
Berry branches in the corners of the quilt. |
|
| The quilting is free-motion and was done on a regular sewing machine.
We used stippling around the embroidery and in-the-ditch quilting all over
the feathered star. |
