Here are some ideas on how to assemble the Squares-and-Ruffles
FSL Crochet Motif into different lace doilies.
All patterns on this page were made using water-soluble Vilene stabilizer
and 40-weight 100% cotton machine quilting Signature thread.

| If you are new to crochet embroidery, please read the General
Guidelines and Step-by-Step Guide to Embroidering our Crochet-Style FSL
Designs first, as it might be very helpful. |
| To get a doily like the one on the photo bellow, you'll have to embroider
the motif four times. Trim the stabilizer, leaving about 1/2" around each
design. DO NOT dissolve the stabilizer yet. |
|
Treat the Vilene as fabric. Fold it and, using a zigzag, stitch the
sides of squares to each other. Use the same threads as the ones with which
you made the embroidery.
You can now dissolve the water-soluble stabilizer. Rinse the stabilizer
carefully, changing water in the bowl several times. The more you rinse,
the softer is the lace. Spread the the doily evenly and leave to
air dry.
The finished size of the doily is about 13 inches in diameter. |
|
| For the second doily, besides the water-soluble Vilene and cotton threads,
you'll also need an 11" x 11" piece of cotton or linen cloth
(we used cotton fabric). The finished size of this doily is
about 17" in diameter. |
|
| Embroider the crochet motif seven times. You do not need to dissolve
the stabilizer now. Trim it, leaving about 1/2" around each design. |
|
Lay out the motifs on the fabric to form a star. Treat the Vilene as
fabric. Fold it and pin the lace to the fabric. Using a zigzag, stitch
the sides of the squares to the fabric. Use the same threads with which
you made the embroidery. Cut away the excess fabric from under the lace.
You can now dissolve the water-soluble stabilizer. Rinse the stabilizer
carefully, changing water in the bowl several times. The more you rinse,
the softer is the lace. Spread the the doily evenly and leave to
air dry. |
|
|
The doilies are ready. Enjoy!
