Then we embroidered the hearts. You can read instructions on how to embroider the crochet lace in our Guide to Creating Crochet-Style Free-Standing Lace.
Use water-soluble Vilene stabilizer. Use the same thread for both the bobbin and needle.
We usually recommend to make crochet embroidery with cotton threads. This project, however, was done with rayon threads.
When the embroidery is ready, cut away the excess stabilizer, rinse it and leave to air dry. Crochet out of rayon thread shrinks considerably, and the final size of the designs will be smaller than the embroidered design before rinsing.
Press with steam. Take a narrow organza ribbon and hand-thread one edge, to make light ruffles.
Hand-stitch the ribbon along the edges of the heart.
Pin the hearts to the sweater. Then hand-stitch them in place.
