Pomegranate Cutwork

The Pomegranate Cutwork design can be embroidered both as an insert and as a freestanding doily/ornament. Here are the instructions for both versions.

You will need fabric, water soluble mesh and embroidery threads. We recommend to use polyester embroidery threads, because rayon embroidery threads are very sensitive to chemicals of the water soluble stabilizers.

Freestanding Doily/Ornament

Step One: Hoop 2 layers of water soluble mesh. Start the machine. It will embroider the oval outline of the design and stop.

Step Two: Cover the outline with a piece of fabric and start the machine. It will embroider the same oval outline and the outline of fruit over the fabric and stop.

Step Three: Take the hoop from the machine. With a pair of sharp scissors cut away the fabric in the areas shown on the picture - outside the oval and inside around the leaves and fruit. Take care not to cut through the stabilizer and stitches.

Step Four: Return the hoop to the machine and finish embroidering.

Wash away the stabilizer and neatly spread on a flat surface and leave to air dry. Press if needed.

Cutwork Insert

Note: we show this version with the flower design. The fruit design can be embroidered in the same way.

Step One: Hoop the fabric with water soluble mesh. Start the machine. It will embroider the oval outline and stop. Start the machine again. It will embroider the oval outline and the outline of the flowers.

Step Two: Take the hoop from the machine. With a pair of sharp scissors cut away the fabric in the areas shown on the picture - inside the oval around the leaves and flowers.
