On this page we give ideas for how to embellish a historical doll dress with embroidery. We used the designs from the Bird Art Nouveau Decorating Set.
We wanted to dress our doll as Mercy Otis Warren (1728-1814) as depicted by one of the first US artists, John Singleton Copley. Mrs Warren wears a Sacque Back Gown, popular in her time. The pattern of the gown for 18-inch dolls is available on the Pixie Faire website.

We decorated a skirt and a stomacher. For these parts of the outfit we used 1/4 yard of sky blue cotton fabric. First we marked the position of the embroidery on the fabric, embroidered it, then cut out the patterns and sewed them.

Here is what the outfit looks like with the sacque back gown on. |
