FSL Applique Celtic Bracelet and Pendant Set

These are instructions on how to embroider the Freestanding Applique Celtic Bracelet and Pendant Set.

You will need water-soluble mesh, fabric for the applique - it may be cotton or leather-like polyester fabric. A fabric glue stick is also helpful. You will also need small embellishments to your taste - beads, leather cord, clasp for a bracelet, etc.

If you applique fabric is fine, stabilize it with light-weight iron-on stabilizer.

The choice of colors is yours.

The Bracelet

Step One: Hoop 2 layers of water-soluble mesh stabilizer, such as Fabri-Solvy by Sulky, Avalon Plus by Madeira, Wash-Away, Aqua Magic, etc.

Upload the design file into your machine. Start embroidering. The machine will embroider an oval and stop.

Step Two: Cover the outline with the applique fabric and start the machine.
The second color will embroider the same outline over the applique fabric and stop. Take the hoop from the machine. With a pair of sharp scissors, cut away the fabric around the oval.

Step Three: Return the hoop to the machine. The next color will embroider the Celtic dragon inside the oval and stop.

Step Four: The next step is to finish the back of the bracelet.

At this point, we embellished the bracelet with some metal embellishments, which are fastened on the back with wire. We did this before finishing the back so that the wire is hidden. Make sure the embellishments are at least 1/8"-1/4" from the edges. If your embellishments fasten in a different way, it's better to wait until you are done with the embroidery.

Take the hoop from the machine and cover the outline from the back with applique fabric. Pin the fabric to the stabilizer outside the embroidery area.

Start the machine. It will embroider the oval. Take the hoop from the machine. With a pair of sharp scissors, cut away the fabric around the oval.

Step Six: Cut away the excess stabilizer, rinse away the remainder. Spread the ornament on a paper towel and leave to air dry. Press. Shape it while warm.

Step Seven: Add any embellishments you'd like. You can also add a closure for the bracelet, though the bracelet usually has enough spring of its own to keep its shape without one.

The Pendant:

The pendant is embroidered in the same way as the bracelet.

The first color makes a circle. Place a piece of fabric over the circle.

The second color embroiders the circle over the fabric. Cut away the fabric around the circle.

The third color embroiders the dragon inside the circle.

The fourth color embroiders the circle to fasten the lining. (Don't forget to place a piece of fabric on the back of the embroidery before embroidering this color. Cut away the excess fabric around the circle after this color.)

The fifth color embroiders the free-standing edging around the applique.
