Mother's Day Table Mats with Rose Embroidery

The Rose Table Mats feature a unique floral shape that make them stand out. They are both practical and beautiful, and would make a great gift.

The embroidery design used in this project is the Mother's Day Rose for the large (5" x 7") hoop. However, you can use any patterns from our large Floral collection.

The finished size of each mat is about 15" in diameter.

You will need

  • embroidery thread according to the color cards of the design,
  • medium-weight cut-away stabilizer,
  • light-weight iron-on stabilizer or sewing interfacing,
  • light-colored cotton fabric for the central part of each mat (about 14" x 14" per mat),
  • fabric for the "frame", about 19" x 19" per mat,
  • fabric for the backing,
  • batting,
  • quilting threads to match the fabrics,
  • graphic pencil, scissors and fabric glue,
You will also need a printer to print out the PDF template. Please note that if you download these instructions as a PDF, you will have to download the template from this page separately!

Step Two: Print out the template, cut it out and connect the parts for the template. You can use tape for this, or trace the parts of the template onto a large sheet of cardstock and cut it out again.

Step Three: Adhere the fabric for the top to the iron-on cut-away stabilizer or interfacing.

Lay the piece out with the stabilizer facing up. Position your template over the stabilizer and trace the template with a pencil.

Step Four: With a pair of sharp scissors, cut out the central part 1/2" from the inner line.

Cut notches into the seam allowance from the edge to the inner line.
