First Crops Art Wall Hanging

This simple and charming quilted wall hanging features the design Pilgrims and the designs from the Autumn Embellishment Set.

The designs are in the cross-stitch technique for a rustic look. They fit into a large hoop (5"x7").

The finished size of the quilt is about 15" x 17".

You will need :

embroidery threads according to the JPG color cards of the designs,
a piece of light colored fabric for the central part,
1 fat quarter of patterned fabric for the borders (we used a fabric with a basket weave print, but a Fall-themed fabric would work too),
some yellow fabric for the first border and binding,
fabric for the backing (1 fat quarter will do),
low-loft batting,
medium-weight cut away embroidery stabilizer, preferably iron-on,
quilter's ruler and rotary cutter,
iron,
additional embellishments, such as fall-themed small buttons, autumn-colored silk leaves, etc.

Cutting:

Out of fabric for the center, cut a rectangle measuring 7 1/2" x 10 1/2".

Out of yellow fabric, cut

2 strips measuring 3/4" x 7 1/2" and
2 strips measuring 3/4" x 11",

Use the remaining fabric for the binding. You will need a strip about 2 1/2" wide and about 68"-70" long.
Out of the fabric for the borders, cut

2 strips measuring 4" x 7 1/2" and
2 strips measuring 4" x 17 1/2".

Assembly:

Note: seam allowance 1/4", press every seam immediately after you make it.

Sew the 3/4" x 7 1/2" strips to the upper and lower edges of the central part.

Sew the 3/4" x 10 1/2" strips to the left and right edges of the central part.

Sew the 4" x 7 1/2" strips to the upper and lower edges of the working piece.

Sew the 4" x 17 1/2" strips to the left and right edges of the working piece.

Embroidery:

Stabilize the central part of the quilt with iron-on cut-away embroidery stabilizer. Hoop tightly. Select threads by the color cards of the designs.

Upload the files of Pilgrims and Autumn Embellishment Set to your embroidery machine.

Embroider the files one by one. Please note that cross-stitch designs are very dense, so hoop the fabric tightly.

Quilting and Finishing:

Now place the backing on a flat surface (table) face down. Cover with batting. Spread your working piece over it.

Pin all layers together.

We quilted in a free-motion style all over the quilt.

Press with heavy steam. Square the quilt. Finish the raw edges with the binding.

Sew on decorative buttons on the borders.
