Change of Season Wall Quilt with Tree Embroidery
This small Fall-themed wall quilt features vibrant colors. It adds a great finishing touch to your Fall decor. We used the design Change of Season, which features a tree with multi-colored leaves, for the Mega hoop (6" x 10").

The finished size of the quilt is about 22" x 22"

You will need :
  • embroidery threads either polyester or rayon - choose colors to match your fabrics,
  • 1 fat quarter for the central part (we chose light cream),
  • small amount of coloreds fabrics for the borders; we used:
    • red,
    • orange,
    • yellow,
    • pale green,
    • light green, and
    • bright green
  • dark green fabric for the last border and binding,
  • medium-weight cut-away embroidery stabilizer,
  • fabric for the backing,
  • batting,
  • quilter's ruler,
  • rotary cutter,
  • iron,
  • #12 universal needle,
  • #12-#14 quilting needle
Cutting:
Out of the fabric for the central part, cut a square measuring 12 1/2" x 12 1/2",

Out of red fabric (first border), cut
  • 2 strips measuring 1" x 12 1/2" and
  • 2 strips measuring 1" x 13 1/2".
Out of orange fabric (second border), cut
  • 2 strips measuring 1" x 13 1/2" and
  • 2 strips measuring 1" x 14 1/2".
Out of yellow fabric (third border), cut
  • 2 strips measuring 1" x 14 1/2" and
  • 2 strips measuring 1" x 15 1/2".
Out of pale green fabric (fourth border), cut
  • 2 strips measuring 1" x 15 1/2" and
  • 2 strips measuring 1" x 16 1/2".
Out of light green fabric (fifth border), cut
  • 2 strips measuring 1" x 16 1/2" and
  • 2 strips measuring 1" x 17 1/2".
Out of bright green fabric (sixth border), cut
  • 2 strips measuring 1" x 17 1/2" and
  • 2 strips measuring 1" x 18 1/2".
Out of dark green fabric (wide seventh border and binding), cut
  • 2 strips measuring 2 1/2" x 18 1/2" and
  • 2 strips measuring 2 1/2" x 22 1/2".
Use the remaining dark green fabric for the binding.

Assembly:
Note: seam allowance is 1/4", press the seam immediately after you make it.
Sew the first border strips to the central part. Sew the shorter strips to the upper and lower edges, and longer to the left and right edges.

Add the rest of the borders in the same way. Sew the shorter strips to the upper and lower edges, then the longer strips to the left and right edges.

Embroidery:
Select the embroidery threads in colors matching your fabric colors.
Mark the position of the embroidery on the central part.
Stabilize the chosen area. Hoop the fabric tightly and embroider the design Change of Season.

Cut away the excess stabilizer around the embroidery.
Quilting and Finishing
Now place the backing on a flat surface (table) face down. Cover with batting. Spread your working piece over it.

Pin all layers together.

We quilted in a free-motion style all over the quilt.
Press with heavy steam. Square the quilt. Finish the raw edges with the binding.
