Wall Quilt with Ancient Greek Vase Embroidery
This small wall quilt features a classical Greek them. We used the frame from the Geometric Border Set for the commercial hoop and one of the designs from One-color Ancient Greek Vase Set for the mega hoop.

The finished size of the quilt is about 17 1/2" x 19 1/2".

You will need :
  • embroidery threads either polyester or rayon, (we made the embroidery in blues, but earth hues will also look well),
  • about 1/2 yard (or 2 fat quarters) of gray marbled fabric for the background,
  • small amount of dark blue fabric for the border and binding,
  • medium-weight cut-away embroidery stabilizer,
  • fabric for the backing,
  • batting,
  • quilter's ruler,
  • rotary cutter,
  • iron,
  • #12 universal needle,
  • #12-#14 quilting needle.
Embroidery:
Upload both designs in the machine, open them one by one and combine them on the screen of the machine.

Stabilize a fat quarter of the background fabric with medium-weight cut-away stabilizer. Hoop the center and embroider both designs.

Press the stitch-out if needed and trim to 11 1/2" x 13", leaving approximately equal margins around the embroidery.

  • 2 strips measuring 1" x 14 1/2",
  • 4 strips measuring 1" x 2" and
  • 2 strips measuring 1" x 4 1/2".
Out of the background fabric, cut

  • 2 strips measuring 2 1/2" x 19 1/2" and
  • 1 strip measuring 1" x 4 1/2".

Assembly:
Note: seam allowance is 1/4", press the seam immediately after you make it.
Sew the blue 1" x 13" and the gray 1 1/2" x 13" strips lengthwise together. Sew these new strips to the left and right edges of the central part with the embroidery, blue strip towards the inside.

Quilting and Finishing
Now place the backing on a flat surface (table) face down. Cover with batting. Spread your working piece over it.

Pin all layers together.

We quilted in a free-motion style all over the quilt.

Press with heavy steam. Square the quilt. Finish the raw edges with the binding.
