Out of the light-colored fabric, cut:
- a square measuring 12 1/2" x 12 1/2";
- 2 strips measuring 5 1/2" x 14 1/2";
- 2 strips measuring 5 1/2" x 24 1/2".

- 2 strips measuring 4 1/2" x 32 1/2".
Assembly:
Note: seam allowance is 1/4" unless otherwise recommended. Press the seam immediately after you make it. |
Sew the 2 patterned 1 1/2" x 12 1/2" strips to the upper and lower edges of the central square. Then sew the 1 1/2" x 14 1/2" strips to the left and right edges of the central part.

Sew the 5 1/2" x 14 1/2" light-colored strips to the upper and lower edges of the working piece. |
Sew the 5 1/2" x 24 1/2" strip to the right edge of the working piece.
Sew the 4 1/2" x 24 1/2" strips to the upper and lower edges of the working piece. |
Sew the 4 1/2" x 32 1/2" strips to the left and right edges of the working piece. |
Embroidery |
Mark the position of the embroidery on the central part and light-colored borders. If you have a printer and embroidery software, print-outs of the designs can be helpful. If you do not, you can cut out shapes of the same size as the designs and arrange them on the fabric to determine the position of the embroidery.
Upload the files from the Pumpkin Border Set and the Gold Bar Border Set to the embroidery machine. Select threads. Working with one pattern at a time, stabilize the area. Hoop the fabric tightly and embroider the designs one by one first in the center, then on the borders. |
Remove the excess stabilizer. |
Quilting and Finishing
Now place the backing on a flat surface (table) face down. Cover with batting. Spread your working piece over it.
Pin all layers together. We quilted in a free-motion style all over the working piece. Start from the central part, and echo-quilt the embroidery first, then the surrounding area. Proceed to the first border, changing quilting thread to a matching one. When quilting the embroidered border, again, first echo-quilt the embroidery, then the surrounding area. |

Press with heavy steam. Square the piece - all angles should be 90 degrees and opposite sides should be the same length. Finish the raw edges with binding. |
