The FSL
Evening Suit for 12" dolls is a set of 2 freestanding lace machine
embroidery designs. Here are the instructions on how to embroider and assemble
this outfit.
|
|
| You will need water-soluble Vilene stabilizer, 40-weight embroidery
threads, and a narrow satin ribbon of a matching color. |
| The suit is embroidered like all our freestanding lace, so the General
Guidelines might be helpful. |
Some points to remember from the General Guidelines:
Use Vilene water soluble stabilizer;
Use the same thread for the needle and bobbin to get two-sided embroidery
(in this case, you don't need to use the exact same thread; you can use
a 50- or 60-weight bobbin thread of a matching color).
DO NOT embroider several designs in one hoop. |
| Step One: To make the blouse, hoop 2 layers of the stabilizer
and embroider the blouse part. The design is two-color. The choice of color
is up to your. We used black and gold. Rinse the stabilizer away. Change
the water several times to wash away the stabilizer completely in order
to make the blouse soft. (You can also leave it in a bowl of warm water
for an hour). Then lay the blouse flat to air dry. |
|
Step Two: Press the dry blouse with steam. Either manually or
on your machine, stitch the side seams. Put the blouse on the doll.
Thread a ribbon through the loops in front and tie the ends. |
|
Step Three: To make the skirt, hoop 2 layers of the stabilizer.
The design is two-color and the choice of color is up to your. We used
black and gold, as for the blouse. Your machine will show 3 colors, the
first color is an auxilary one and you should use the first color of the
design (black).
The machine will make an outline of the skirt and stop. Take the hoop
out of the machine. DO NOT take the embroidery out of the hoop! Place
two pieces of satin ribbon on the stabilizer, as shown on the picture.
Pin the ribbons so that they do not move, but be careful that the pins
are outside the embroidery and do not get in the way of the needle! |
|
| Return the hoop to the machine and finish the embroidery. |
|
| Step Four: Cut away the access stabilizer and rinse it. Change
the water several times to wash away the stabilizer completely in order
to make the skirt soft. (You can just leave the skirt in a bowl of warm
water for an hour to get rid of the stabilizer). Then spread it neatly
and leave to air dry. |
|
| Step Six: Press with steam and put the skirt on the doll, thread
one end of the ribbon through the slot in the skirt and tie the ends around
the doll's waiste. |
|
|
The doll's outfit is ready. Enjoy!
